Unfortunately, the word “discipline” often carries a strictly punitive connotation. While it is true that disciplinary measures generally involve some measure of consequence… teaching, training, and learning is at the heart of all Godly discipline.

Jesus' disciples were not perfect, and neither is your child. Therefore, all children need discipline. That is, all children will make mistakes, and when they do, it is our responsibility to show them a better way, just as Jesus did with disciples and as God does with us. The Bible says that God disciplines those he loves (Hebrews 12:6), and because we love your child, it is our responsibility to discipline them.

When students do not know how to read, we… teach them how to read.

When students do not know to add/subtract, we… teach them how to add/subtract.

When students do not know how to spell, we… teach them how spell.

When students do not know how to act, we… discipline them.

At HCA, when a student misbehaves, we do what is most beneficial to help the child replace the negative behavior with an appropriate behavior. Sometimes this involves some form of undesired consequence. Punishment is never the end goal. Discipline is the process, and changed behavior is the goal.

At HCA, part of educating the whole child involves teaching and training behavior, demeanor, speech, appearance, and attitude. We take great pride in focusing heavily on proactive disciplinary measures to provide all students with the greatest opportunities for success.

Please note that while we provide many proactive disciplinary measures, we do use the paddle when necessary. Teachers are not allowed to paddle students; only administrators. Male administrators paddle boys, and female administrators paddle girls. At least two administrators are always present when a child is paddled.
